Afternoon -  We will be arriving to the Hampton Inn Downtown Columbus throughout the afternoon on Sunday and will get situated. We will be able to walk to Bar Louie for dinner, and everyone can head over there anytime after 6:00.

bullet

6:00 p.m. – We will begin meeting at Bar Louie in the Arena District. Bar Louie - Arena District at 504 Park Street is one block from the Hampton Inn, so we can easily walk there for the evening. Since we don’t know who is coming when, this event is NOT covered by the CC 08 fee so any food and drink should be taken care of individually.

bullet

Note: If you shipped horns in advance to Bill Faust’s attention at Ologie (447 East Main Street Columbus, Ohio 43215) he will bring them to The Hampton Sunday evening so you can take them to your rooms. Please make arrangements with Bill to pick them up Sunday evening.

bullet

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.Display Show & Tell at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Columbus Convention Center is located directly across High Street from the hotel. We will have the room reserved for the entire day, so you can go in the morning earlier if you want in order to set up your instruments to share. We will be in room E150.

bullet

12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Lunch will be provided at the Convention Center, so we can eat and then continue looking at the instruments during this time. This is included in your CC 08 fee.

bullet

6:30 p.m. – Dinner and then CC'08 Jam Session with the Mark Flugge Trio! The Mark Flugge Trio is a great group of musicians, led by jazz pianist Mark Flugge, who frequently perform with Columbus Jazz Orchestra. We will spend the evening at the Park Street Tavern at 501 Park Street just one block from the Hampton Inn. There will be a selection of food for dinner which is covered in your CC 08 fee. However, drinks must be paid for individually. Plan on arriving around 6:30 for food and drink with the jam session starting at 8pm and running until 11pm.

TUESDAY, MAY 20TH

bullet

Before 9:00 a.m. – Same as on Monday morning, we will have continental breakfast in the hotel or you are welcome to try some of the local options suggested by the hotel.

bullet

9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – We will have our first presentations in the conference room at Ologie (447 East Main Street - about a 10 minute drive from the Hampton Inn). We will organize transportation for anyone who needs it in the Hampton Inn lobby at 8:45 am. Nick DeCarlis has agreed to organize the presentations. We will have at least one local presenter, Dr. Paul Droste, former director of The Ohio State University Marching Band and founder of The Brass Band of Columbus.

bullet

11:30 a.m – 1:00 p.m.  After presentations we will have two hours for transportation back to the Arena District for lunch. The suggested location for lunch would be at the North Market, located directly behind the hotel. The North Market is a historic part of Columbus’ history, featuring over 30 merchants serving unique fresh, and prepared foods, along with some merchandise. All of the individual merchants are local vendors with unique products. The lunch selection is excellent, with everything from pizza and sushi to Vietnamese food to a New York-style deli. It is also home to an award-winning, nationally recognized ice cream shop, Jeni's Ice Creams. There is seating in the second floor of the market, and also outside if the weather is nice! Since this is an open market versus a restaurant it will be best to gather in small groups to eat together. And for that same reason the cost of this lunch is NOT covered in the CC08 fee so please pay your tab individually.

bullet

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – CC ’08 Performance at Goodale Park. Goodale Park is located just north of the hotel/North Market area and is a beautiful park with a gazebo, located on the east side of the park, where we can give an outdoor performance. The Park and area will be a great area for walking around and spending time during the week if the weather is nice. Everyone can walk there from the hotel, or if needed, can drive to get instruments there. There is metered parking surrounding the park. Chairs and music stands will be provided and we do have a rain-out option in a nearby church hall.

bullet

3:00 p.m. – Free time to break and head back to the hotel, put instruments away and rest up for the evening.

bullet

Dinner and Drinks – We will be having a quick dinner at the Barley’s Brewing Company, which is located at 467 North High Street, about ½ block north of the hotel. Barley's is known in Columbus for their hand-crafted ales, the food that they prepare to compliment the local beers, and a laid-back environment to just hang out.  This time we’ll start a little earlier – 5:30 – because we have to finish up by 7pm. This meal must be paid for separately as out of pocket.

bullet

7:30 pm – Concert by the Brass Band of Columbus. The Brass Band is a 45 piece traditional British brass band  that plays regionally, nationally and even internationally at indoor and outdoor venues, and as been on the forefront of the brass band movement for over 20 years. It will be a fantastic evening of engaging brass music! The concert will be at Mees Auditorium at Capital University.  Capital is about 20 minutes by car from The Hampton Inn so we must all gather there at 7pm sharp to caravan over to the concert.  If you’ll have a car we’ll probably need your help in forming the caravan. Directions and parking instructions will be given out to all drivers. There may be a $5 admission for this event to off-set hall rental costs for the band – we’ll let you know.

bullet

After the concert everyone is on their own but we’ll regroup to coordinate transportation back to the hotel and Arena District area.

bullet

Everyone will also need to make sure they have their necessary instruments that will be used for a second brass band ensemble concert later in the afternoon, as we will not return back to the hotel in between activities for the day. Our first stop will be Ologie where we will have a second round of presentations.

bullet

9:30 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. – We will begin our morning with more individual presentations.

bullet

11:30 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Lunch will be provided at Ologie. We will eat following and/or during the presentations. Lunch is included in your CC08 fee. At 12:30 we will assemble for car-pooling over to the Columbus Museum, about 10 minutes away.

bullet

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – A CC ’08 Vintage Instrument Concert at the Columbus Museum of Art in downtown Columbus. The Museum Auditorium is an excellent space for us to all play together, and it will be set up for us to go in and play for the afternoon. Museum guests will be allowed to come in and listen as they please.  Chairs and music stands will be provided.

bullet

3:00 p.m. – After our performance, anyone interested can feel free to walk through the museum and look at the exhibitions. At that time, there will be an excellent featured exhibition called “Great Expectations: Aristocratic Children in European Portraiture” which may be of interest. You can check out some of the details on the website - Great Expectations Exhibition. Otherwise, everyone is free to break and head back to the hotel to unwind.

bullet

Dinner – We will coordinate rides to go back to the east end of downtown for a 5 star group dinner at the Indian Oven, located next door to Ologie, at 427 E. Main Street. The Indian Oven features authentic, excellent Indian food in a hip, contemporary space in Columbus.
