Airports & Transportation

Update: 04/27/08

Gainesville Regional (GNV)
10 miles / 0:16
Gainesville Regional is an excellent airport, and sometimes you can get a direct flight for less than $100 over a flight into one of the larger Florida Airports.  This is a good deal then, as you will save a long drive, and maybe even having to rent a car for the week.  But if the difference is much more than that, you are better off at the larger airports.

The other airports range from 90 to 120 minute drive times more or less to Gainesville.  The good news is that, once here, you will be doing very little driving -- seldom more than 5 miles in any direction.  Most of us put 1000 miles on our rentals in California last May!

Jacksonville International (JAX)
86 miles / 1:40
Jacksonville is closest of the big airports, and has the most scenic drive.

Orlando International (MCO)
121 miles / 1:51
Orlando may yield the best prices, and it's an easy Florida Turnpike / I-75 drive to the hotel.

Tampa International (TPA)
135 miles / 2:07
Tampa is slightly longer, but I-75 all the way to the hotel, easy and fast.
